School has started and it has made our time for hiking more difficult to find. Plus, this August has been one of the wettest in a long time, so the weather has not been the best. Since today is a day off, we decided to try a different hike. One of Melinda's coworkers (Thanks, Kathy Hanosky!) mentioned hiking to Green Lake in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area. The trailhead is located at the end of the North Leigh Creek Road just outside of Tetonia and before Driggs, Idaho. We thought the hike to the lake was only a few miles and were surprised to see that it was actually 6.5 miles to the lake. We were not completely prepared to go clear to the lake and ended up hiking to the top of Green Mountain, which was 8 miles round trip. The view above is where we stopped, it is beautiful. All of the rain has made it very green. The rain also caused some problems for us as well, a very muddy trail. This hike has so many wildflowers and if we had hiked a month earlier they would have been in full bloom. We still had some great views though and it is a hike we are planning on doing again next year!

I was thinking of trying this hike this year. How long did take you to hike to the take, mountain and back?

Sky, It took us about 4 hours to hike to the top of Green Mountain and back. We are planning on hiking to the lake this summer, which makes it 13 miles round trip. Good luck with the hike.
