35 Down, 5 to go! We climbed Table Rock yesterday. We went with our brother, Jared and his wife, Stephanie, plus, our sister, Teri, and our brother, Eric, and our niece, Julianne. Quite a group! Eric had not climbed it since he was 12 years old and he is now 48! Julianne had never climbed it and we were not sure if she would make it up. Melinda pushed her the last few yards up to the top, but she did it. It was great that they could do it together. Table Rock is probably the most difficult hike that we have done. There are two different trails you can take, Huckleberry Canyon and the Face Trail. The Face Trail is very steep, but only 4 miles, whereas Huckleberry Canyon is 7 miles. We chose to go up and down the Face Trail. You gain 4,000 feet in elevation which is why it is difficult. The Triangle Rock is our landmark before we start up the last tortuous ascent. After that, we usually don't feel like taking pictures until we get to the top. There were many other groups on the trail as well and we saw many people that we knew.
WE'RE BAAAACK!! After a week spent sea kayaking, playing in the ocean, seeing the zoos, Sea World, USS Midway, and seeing more sights, we are back from California. While we were in San Diego, we were able to get in three more hikes (and that's not even counting the San Diego Zoo, where we walked for 4.4 miles).
#32-Tide Pools, Cabrillo National Monument Cabrillo is another favorite place to go in San Diego. There is a lighthouse to see as well as great views of the city. It is also interesting to drive through a naval base to get to the monument. The hike at the tide pools is about 1.4 miles. You get to walk along the cliff edges and watch the water pound the cliffs. You can get close to the edges, but watch out for those waves. Teri, our sister, did not respect the sea and got hit by a big wave. It was pretty funny! The tide was too high for us to see any of the tide pools. #33 Beach Trail, Torrey Pines State Park
We had enough time on our last day in San Diego to get to Torrey Pines for another hike. We did the beach trail, which is about 1.5 miles round trip. Torrey Pines is full of trails and great views. We were able to walk to the beach and then along the beach to where we had parked our vehicle. |
