We did a new hike today! We love trying out new hikes. This hike is one we have heard a lot about from many people. We went with another sister, Teri, and our niece, Julianne. We hiked to Goldbug Hot Springs. It is quite a drive from Rexburg (about 3 hours). It is located about 20 miles outside of Salmon, Idaho (by mile marker 282 on highway 93). Even though the drive is long, it is worth the hike. The hot springs are just under 2 miles from the trailhead. The first part of the hike has four switchbacks which are fairly steep. You quickly reach a gate that marks the end of private property and the beginning of BLM land. The next mile is relatively level but you are hiking on a slight incline. After you cross the last bridge it gets pretty steep for about 1/2 a mile until you reach the pools. (The top pool is just below the last bridge you cross.) There are about 3 different pools that we could see (although we are pretty sure there are more of them). We just soaked our legs but others were in swimming suits. We will definitely take our suits next time. Some things we read said that some people will soak in the nude, we did not see anyone like that. Thankfully. |

Lower Palisades Lake was our hike today. We have done it before but wanted to see how much water was on the trail. If you've never done this hike, it is about 4 miles to the lower lake and you cross the creek about four or five times during the course of the hike. The creek that follows the trail was very full and made it difficult to hear each other as we hiked. It was a beautiful day. We expected to see a lot of water on the trail because of how high the water was running, but the trail only had a few muddy spots to get around (and all of those came in the last mile of the hike). It was so green and the trail was not too crowded. There were a few people camping near the lake but it was a very peaceful day. We completed the 8.5 miles of easy rolling hills in about 4 hours. We are hoping the snow in the Tetons melts soon so we can do some hikes in those mountains.
