After 2 weeks on the road and 6,000+ miles driven, we got back from our road trip to the Southeast. We saw beautiful views like Great Smoky Mountains (pictured right) and visited some fun cities like New Orleans and Santa Fe. We also got to check off some of the hikes we want to do this year. |
Cummins Falls is located in Tennessee at Cummins Falls State Park. Tennessee has a number of state parks and we went to a few of them with waterfalls. This hike has an overlook, but the real fun is hiking to the base of the falls. Below the waterfall is a pool of water you can swim in or just play on the different levels of the falls. There are even life jackets available to wear if you choose to swim. The hike was about 2.5 miles round trip. |
Rainbow Falls is a hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is 5.4 miles round trip. It is a fun hike and many people choose to hike it. It is a popular hike and the parking lot was packed. We had to just park along the road. We saw some deer on the trail on the way to the falls. There are other hikes that we wished we had more time to do, but we chose to do this one. We were going to hike the Alum Cave Bluffs but that hike was closed when we were there. If you don't want to hike, there are plenty of views to see or you can go to Pigeon Forge to look at the fun shops or head over to Dollywood. |
Amicalola Falls and the Len Foote Hike Inn were probably the highlights of the trip. We hiked the 5 miles (4.9 actually) to the Len Foote Hike Inn. The hike starts at Amicalola State Park in Georgia. We hiked to the falls after we returned from the Hike Inn. The Hike Inn is an awesome experience. The rooms consist of 2 bunk beds, but you have a bath house where you can take a hot shower once you get to the inn. Dinner in the evening was fabulous. It is served family style so you can get to know your fellow hikers. You can also sit in the sunrise room, which has games and books for the guests to enjoy or you can just enjoy the view. It has a wonderful atmosphere and we definitely would enjoy going again. |
