You may be wondering why we have not posted any hikes the past couple of weeks. Well, we are moving so our life right now is packing up our place. Elisa and Melinda have lived longer here than anywhere else since leaving home for college. Many of our previous stays have been for a couple of years, most less than a year. We are staying in Rexburg, just moving to a different location. As far as our hikes go, our last hikes (38, 39, and 40) will be to Havasupai in the Grand Canyon. The school district we both work for gets a week break for harvest vacation. So we are taking advantage of the break to do our final hikes. We will be hiking to a couple of falls, Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls while we are down there. We will hike 8 miles to the town of Supai to stay in the lodge there. We will hike to the different falls while we are there for a couple of days. |

School has started and it has made our time for hiking more difficult to find. Plus, this August has been one of the wettest in a long time, so the weather has not been the best. Since today is a day off, we decided to try a different hike. One of Melinda's coworkers (Thanks, Kathy Hanosky!) mentioned hiking to Green Lake in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area. The trailhead is located at the end of the North Leigh Creek Road just outside of Tetonia and before Driggs, Idaho. We thought the hike to the lake was only a few miles and were surprised to see that it was actually 6.5 miles to the lake. We were not completely prepared to go clear to the lake and ended up hiking to the top of Green Mountain, which was 8 miles round trip. The view above is where we stopped, it is beautiful. All of the rain has made it very green. The rain also caused some problems for us as well, a very muddy trail. This hike has so many wildflowers and if we had hiked a month earlier they would have been in full bloom. We still had some great views though and it is a hike we are planning on doing again next year!
