The smoke finally cleared and the weather was nice so we got in another hike -- Fairy Falls in Yellowstone. It is about 5 miles round trip (a little longer if you take a detour to the Grand Prismatic Spring overlook). The hike is not difficult because it is level the whole way. The path is also very wide and not very rocky. It would be great even for larger strollers. In July, they opened up a new overlook for Grand Prismatic Spring. It is a great view even with the steam. You can finally see the Grand Prismatic Spring the way you see it in pictures. The trailhead for the overlook starts about 3/4 of a mile past the Midway Geyser Basin. You can also make it a longer hike by starting at the Fountain Flat Road (which is before the Midway Geiser Basin). You can bike part of the trail if you start there as well. Overall, it was a great hike and a nice one if you want an easy hike. |
